Gilbert Mayor’s Character Race

To support the Gilbert non-profit Community Action Network (CAN) in their efforts to raise funds for the annual Character Counts Recognition Program, you are invited to participate in a family charity race. “Character Counts” emphasizes the values our children learn at school.  The event will be held on Saturday morning, March 23.

The inaugural Mayor’s Character Race and Relay represents the best of Gilbert – Families, Schools, and Youth.  The event is a quick, two mile loop course (2 mile bike / 2 mile run) to be completed by an adult & youth relay team (teams of 2 or more are permitted).  Pre-registration closes on 3/20 and only 75 team spots are open.  Sign up early with your kids &  family and support Gilbert’s youth!  Please forward this message to your friends or like on Facebook.  See the details below.

An adult/youth relay team (additional youth team members are permitted) will run and bike a 2-mile loop course along the Eastern Canal Trail next to the Riparian Preserve.  Come demonstrate your love for Gilbert Schools and support the Character Counts annual recognition program.  A Pre-registration fee of $45 per team ($10 per each additional team member) includes a T-shirt commemorating this inaugural event.  Pre-registration closes on 3/20.  Race day registration will be $55 but t-shirts may be limited.

Mayor's Character Counts Run

Strengthen Small Businesses, Strengthen Gilbert

Gilbert runs on small businesses. Most of our jobs and services in the Town come from these great organizations. As a small business operator, I’m honored to be endorsed by the leading business organization in Gilbert; the Small Business Alliance.

There are many ways to improve the environment for our small businesses. Here are seven objectives I will bring to the Town Council.

  1. Get out of their way! Red tape acts like sand in the gears of our local economy.  Let’s remove the unnecessary regulations grinding down our job creators.
  2. Include small businesses in key decisions. As the largest employers in Gilbert, let’s give them a bigger seat at the table.
  3. Listen.  At least twice a year, the Council should work on a list of ways to improve the business climate for our small businesses.
  4. Be respectful. Small business owners should be treated with more respect when they come to do business at the Town. We should collect feedback on our customer service and learn how we can improve.
  5. Education partnerships are important to successful businesses. Strengthen our relationships with the educational institutions in the East Valley to keep the best and brightest in Gilbert.
  6. Representation. Small businesses pay taxes; lots of taxes. I will ensure they have a bigger voice in Gilbert.
  7. Treat our small and large businesses equal. Small business don’t want special treatment, they want free markets, level playing fields, and fair treatment. Too many times, they feel like second-class citizens to the larger businesses in our community.

These are just a few things we can do to improve the economic climate for our small businesses.

 

 

Primary Election Wrap Up

Thank you for Voting! Here’s the latest on the results…

Last Tuesday was a wonderful day with many good people going to the polls. Thank you for being the leaders in our community for voting and encouraging your friends to do likewise.

In short, Mayor Lewis and Councilwoman Daniels were re-elected and I will be going to a run off election in November. Here’s how it breaks out.

Although there still are a number of early and provisional ballots in Maricopa left to count, a few things seem certain.

First, John Lewis was re-elected as Mayor by a strong majority. I’m honored to have his endorsement and look forward to another four years of his leadership.

Second, Jenn Daniels also seems likely to have secured her re-election.  I’m thrilled for Jenn.  She has served Gilbert well and our Town will be better off by keeping this excellent public servant on the Town Council.

Congratulations to both great candidates!

In my race, we came in a strong second place with over 12,600 votes and counting. This is over 1,410 votes ahead of the next candidate.  Still, this was about 700 hundred votes shy of the required 50% needed to lock in a seat in this election, but plenty of votes to continue into the run off election scheduled for November 2, 2012.

That means the VoteJaredTaylor.com signs stay up!

Yes, there is a slim chance that I could close the gap and lock a seat, but the probability is low.  It is not certain how many of the uncounted ballots have votes for our race.  We will hear the final numbers next week and I will communicate an update at that time.

Right now, I’m preparing for the November run off and continue to share the benefits of small governments that strengthen our small business environment and protect the individual liberties of each Gilbert resident.

I am honored and thankful for each of you who have supported me.  Supporters of my opponent pushed a message of fear, religious bigotry, and big government. That’s not Gilbert.  My campaign was a message of personal liberty and economic prosperity.

In the upcoming months, I’ll need your support once more to extend our positive message to each voter in Gilbert. This will be an exciting time. Thank you for your kind support and I look forward to another victory in November.

 

Another Great Week

Only 5 days left until the election. Things are looking great!

I have enjoyed visiting with many voters this week, including a number of wonderful parents and youth at the Boys and Girls Club yesterday.

The highlight was competing in an extemporaneous free-throw contest with Mayor Lewis and a few of the boys at the Club.
